Full bran raw red rice
Variety: Chomannetti (Indigenous red rice of Kerala).
Characteristics: sticky, when cooked and good for rice based snacks.
This hilly rice variety- Chommannetti, also known as Chommannettikkandappan, is grown in deep soil fields (more than knee height) of villages located amidst the Idukki reserve forest. This rice is harvested once in a year and is not grown for commercial purposes. We procure extra rice from the farmers to ensure an additional income for them. This rice is grown after monsoons using traditional farming methods without adding any external input in the form of fertilizers or pesticides. Fertility of the soil is best during this period due to deposition of eroded organic matter during monsoons.
